Obituary of Scott Hogue

Santa Barbara has been through so much recently and yet suffered another, huge loss. Scott Robert Hogue, at the age of 77, died in his home from natural causes on Monday, January 22, 2018. Skitchy, as he was known by all his friends, was an icon in Santa Barbara. He will always be remembered for his outgoing, larger than life, effusive and gregarious personality. His sense of humor, generosity, love of life and incredible talent will be missed by all that knew him. Scott grew up in Riverside, California where he lived with his older brother Les and parents Abbey and Bob. They moved to Honolulu in Scott's junior year of High School and lived there with extended family until Scott moved to Los Angeles in the early 1960's to become a chef. After working his way up in the culinary arts, Scott became the Executive Chef at Hillcrest Country Club in Los Angeles, a prestige position for a young chef. After several years in this position, Scott moved to Santa Barbara where he took on another Executive Chef role at the elite Birnam Wood Golf Club. He endeared himself to many while working at Birnam Wood and built a name for himself in the culinary arts and event planning. Scott opened the Epicurean restaurant in Santa Barbara. The Epicurean rapidly became the place to dine. The Epicurean was a legendary restaurant in Santa Barbara until the late 1980's, when Scott left cooking to begin his next foray into the world of floral design. SRHogue floral design was born and thrives to this day. He was known to tell it like it is, no holds barred. His truth, attention to detail and strive for perfection in all that he did is the legacy that he leaves to the community, his close family of friends, relatives and loved ones. Scott will be well remembered and dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Scott's name to the Santa Barbara Humane Society.
