I did not know you Zulrizal, but if you were anything like your dad, you were kind and funny and loved nature. I hope each time your dad goes out in nature, you will keep him company and let him know you are with him, that a spirit never dies. Blessings on your new journey. Prayers to your family.

Rizal,
Today is the day I am going to lay you down to your final resting place.
It hardly seems believable that you are no longer here.
To lose someone special like you is really hard.
The hardest thing to cope with is never knowing why.
I’ve tried to look for a reason, but no one can tell me why.
I don’t understand and maybe never will.
You left us far too early, and now you’ll never have a chance to fulfill all your dreams.
There’s an ache that’s in my heart to know your great achievement before you passed.
It makes it hard to breathe.
You always lived life to the fullest.
As for me, it won’t be the same again.
But I will remember the happiness you brought and memories we shared.
I loved you Rizal, then, now, and forevermore.
Papa.

Rizal had an incredible spirit. While people say that you choose friends, not family, Rizal was the one family member who felt like a friend. His affable personality and relaxed nature always warmed up our family gatherings. We will miss him dearly, and honor him the best we can by bringing both his memories and spirit with us in our future interactions. May he rest in peace now in heaven. ~Julie & Ronald

For my dear brother Zubir,
(Rizal’s father)

I am thankful to have had a cousin like Rizal. When we were younger, he used to entertain me with magic tricks, and my mom told me we loved to play together. I was glad when he moved back to Los Angeles in recent years because it gave us a chance to spend more time together. I am sorry that we didn't have more time to become close again. His hardworking spirit and determination was always an inspiration for me. Whenever I was struggling through tough times in my own life, I always thought of him and how he had made a life for himself. If he could do it, I knew that everything would be okay for me too. I never thought that he would be gone so suddenly, or so soon. Rizal was a kind, giving, and selfless soul and I will miss him dearly.

Riz
It has been seven days since you’ve been gone.
I have been thinking of you every minute of those days.
Disbelief is very heavy on my chest; I’m confused.
I wish I could ask you what had happened and why.
How are you doing now? How can I help? Have you eaten?
I looked at your face when they brought you back from the coroner’s office.
You looked very peaceful just like when you were asleep.
I wanted to whisper something to you, but nothing came out of my mouth.
When you were younger you looked just like that when you were asleep.
I faltered whenever I’d try to wake you up, because of that look.
I wanted to memorize that look.
My beloved Rizal, you will forever be missed.

Dear Rizal,
Since the very beginning of your life, we never doubt the fact that you are a good person. You knew what love is, what and how to respect people, and what happiness really means. If, by any chance, life didn’t treat you so well, it was just how life uncover its mysteries to make you tougher, smarter, and more resilient. You are someone loved by everyone around you, including your mother. Your mother is very proud of you for what you did, for you to complete your study and for you to start a rewarding career. Your mother always told us every information she heard about you and brought you into her prayer every night. Sometimes God’s love and human’s love work in different ways, and it’s just a matter of time for us to make sense of them. Now, you have already rested in a better place, with God and His angels by your side. We know that deep down your heart there is love, forgiveness, and humility, and those things will also be remembered and cherished until we all meet again someday and somewhere in time.

Rizal, while we only met only once in our life I still remember the moment we spent together. The only memory I have with you is when I went to the US visiting your family when i was 5 years old. I was in your room scribbling stuffs with your crayon and making a mess in your room.
I also celebrated halloween's day with you by going to stranger's houses asking for a trick or treat, we would get a lot of candies from strangers and young me was very happy about it. Ever since then I have never went to the US or ask strangers for candies in their houses for trick or treat.
Even though we don't have a lot of memories together I still consider you as a big brother and thank you for everything you did when I was in the US.
I am sending my deepest condolences to the family of Uncle Zubir and Auntie Aling. As Rizal is their only son I could imagine how painful it is to lose their precious son unexpectedly.

I am terribly sad after getting the news about you, Rizal my nephew, who passed away on March 20, 2020.
When he was still a baby, I always had the chance to meet and play with him in Jakarta.
After you and your parents have moved to LA, I can only get to see you growing from childhood into adulthood from photos.
You had also achieved an outstanding milestone to be an investment advisor in a well known company, Wells Fargo in LA, which is your father's pride.
But nobody could have known that after you celebrated your 32nd birthday on March 19, 2020, you will leave your parents and us forever without any message.
Rest in peace Rizal, God will always be with you.
Love,

We share this earth together with loved ones to lift each other up and from all I heard about you Rizal, you did just that. You were generous and kind and care free and when you found inspiration you were a star. I feel like I knew you from the countless stories of warmth that were shared by your Koko. There aren’t enough generous and kind people left in this world, that is why this is was a heartbreaking loss. Rest easy Rizal, now is your chance to be as care free as can be. To the family and friends my sincerest condolences. May God carry you through this very painful time and may you find peace in knowing that he was loved.

Rizal was a gentleman ever since he was a toddler. He called me Koko, which means youngest aunt on the father’s side. My brother and his family lived across the street from us. Rizal always shared; he would carry his favorite mutant ninja turtle Rafael to share with me. When he had some goodies from his mom, he would want to come to my house to eat them with me. They could be gummy bears or goldfish crackers, and no matter how little he had, he shared. He was like a son to me.
When I had my daughter, Idaleen, he adored her. He stopped by my house every day after school, and spent quality time with her. He had a gentle heart and was a big brother (Gege) to her. They were years apart, but he was never tired of entertaining her, and spent time to play with her. Rizal lived close to me until my brother moved his family to Santa Barbara to start a new job.
Rizal was uprooted, but managed to adjust, made new friends, moved on with all his strength, and grew up to become a fine young man. He was determined. He worked his way up from odd jobs to gaining a successful career at Wells Fargo. At the end of December 2017, he accepted a great job offer and moved back to Los Angeles.
When he saw an opportunity to be an investment advisor, he jumped at it. He spent endless days and nights studying and passed all the tests. He did not let any obstacles hinder him. His hard work and persistence finally paid off at the end of 2019. He had finally reached his ultimate goal, and success was in front of him. He was a responsible young man who had just lined up all his ducks.
He had an excellent palate, and knew how and where to enjoy extraordinary foods. He loved Korean BBQ. When he moved back to Los Angeles I invited him to all my family occasions, because I finally had the opportunity to pick up what where we left off years ago. We were planning to eat together for an early celebration of my daughter’s birthday on 3/21/20. When my brother called on 03/20/20 and informed me that he had passed away, I was crushed, paralyzed beyond belief. What could have possibly gone wrong? Why now?
I am very proud of what he had become, and knowing he will be remembered and loved by his family and friends comforts me. Rest in peace Rizal, my dear one. We miss you here, but heaven has gained an angel.

This is from Papa
Rizal, Why? What Happened!!
I am broken to pieces right now and refuse to accept it.
When you told me that you wanted to move to LA, I absolutely disapproved.
But I didn’t want to obstruct your path to success.
You had just stepped onto the ladder that you thought would take you to the top.
You were so happy about it, your friends were happy for you, we were all happy about it.
We all saw the bright light shine upon you.
You are my only son and you are the jewel of the family - and you were aware of that.
You thought I was over protective.
I pushed you for one reason - to be independent in all aspects, because I can’t look after you forever.
Your birthday was just 3 days before you passed.
And the day you passed was mine, I guess this was my last one.
Now that you are gone, our family will also be gone.
I don’t know how far I am going to drag this sorrow.
I loved you very very much Rizal, you Rest In Peace you hear?!
I look forward to seeing you in my dreams.
Papa.
