I cannot express the loss I felt when news of Chris's passing reached me. My thoughts, prayers and love go out to Joanne and Chris's family. I met Chris fishing in Alaska and have enjoyed many evening conversations with him over the last several years. It didn't take me long to appreciate the love Chis had for his family, for life and his love for God. Knowing he was true in his faith, I am assured that someday we will meet again.

Chris has been a great friend since we started out nearly 40 years ago. It's very difficult to express how much we'll miss him - he was the best kind of friend anyone could wish for
- loyal, honest, steadfast who always set the bar very high. We've shared so much over the many years we've known him. His passing has left an indescribable void in our lives. He was larger than life. Hamba kahle Chris

Chris and I shared many of the same passions in life; cooking, wine, skiing, rugby,and travel.I was extremely blessed to be able to enjoy many of these things with him and Joanne. He taught me so many things in the kitchen and helped me express myself more as a cook. Our ski trips in Utah and trips to Argentina will live long in the memory. Incredibly generous, fun, adventurous man who loved his family and his faith in Jesus Christ provides me with comfort and peace knowing he has gone to be with the Lord. A wonderful father-in-law who will be missed so much. Looking forward to catching up in the kingdom of God Chris.

I will never forget the kindness and generosity my Uncle Chris showed me when I visited him and Joanne (along with my cousin Simone and her husband Graham) in Utah in January 2018. We hadn’t seen each other for many years and it was the most wonderful holiday that gave us the opportunity to reconnect and bond with each other. In particular I will be forever grateful for his patience whilst teaching me to ski - his firm but kind way (I didn’t get a hug when I burst into tears after falling for what must have been the 50th time that day but that was probably for the best! He made sure I was ok and we carried on) :-)
I am so sad that my husband Gareth didn’t get to meet him and that our unborn child won’t either. But I will share my memories of him and make sure he is never forgotten. We love you Uncle Chris. From Kate, Gareth and baba. Xx

There was good and there was bad,
You loved us and we loved you.
It was our pleasure calling you Dad,
As you were the best father we knew.
From camping to ballroom dancing,
You taught me grit, fun, and elegance.
Your laugh filled the room to the ceiling,
As did your countenance.
Together-time was a priority,
You were keen on investing in relationship.
I enjoyed our mental sparring, mostly,
But much more the safety and comfort of our friendship.
Those close enough noticed your tending animals and plants as attentive,
A juxtaposition to your brusque ways.
You were hard, and difficult, and surprisingly sensitive;
Bathing me age 21, for months with no complaints.
Your excitement and fervour were admirable and infectious,
It is inspiring that you found joy in most things you put your energy each day;
Skiing, fishing, gardening, business, food, wine, being in the bush.
Probably because you did what you wanted to, even dying your preferred way.
Too soon. Too soon!
In agony I cry out to God.
Trusting His purpose and plan,
I can see your solemn nod.
Your memory will live on in the countless ways you’ve touched innumerable lives,
A testament to your character, your vitality, and your wiles.
My Daddy, you are a lion;
Ferocious, a mystery, and your rumbles...
To be in your pride was a privilege,
Forever the king of our jungle.

Chris was giant of a man in so many ways. We only knew for a few short years, but his spirit and personality have had a big impact on us. We loved his joy in life. We enjoyed every moment of time that we were able to spend with Chris and Joanne. We will always remember him fondly and joy in the way that he changed our lives and the things that we learned from him.
Our love and best wishes to his family and friends for healing. May the spirit of the Lord be with you. With love, Rick and Linda Tolman
