I am so grateful to have such an incredible role model and Great Grandma (Gg). Gg was always full of joy, laughter, and unconditional love. She had a heart of gold and always gave so much of herself. Gg, you were and always will be an inspiration to me and so many others. Thank you for being a beacon of light and teaching so many important life lessons. I will always remember the way you tightly held my hand when we would sit next to eachother. You always impressed me with how much you knew about the Laker's current season, their players, and how they could improve their season. I cherished every moment I could have with you and wish we could have had more. You remind all of us to be the best versions of ourselves and to cherish life and all it has to offer. I love you, Gg <3

First, I want to thank my brother Ken and Lynette for doing a beautiful job on the Obituary for Mom. I am going to talk about the HARD and GOOD TIMES, we had. Several years ago I had Mom down for the week and we were discussing the hard times and mistakes she made. Her first divorce from my father Avery she gave him everything. We lived in a tent in Reno NV, and I took care of my brother while Mom worked in a restaurant in town. We than moved back to Santa Barbara, and lived in a tool shed while Mom was working at the Blue Onion. She worked hard and long everyday to support her family, almost never missing a day of work. She was both mother and father to us; I never missed a Father’s Day to send her a card to let her know the respect I had for her. These hard times when on for many years. Then she said, I must have done something right, look how good you kids turned out. Wow, I hit the floor, felt like Johnny Cash, and a Boy Named Sue. She showed us all the things not to do and I must say we learned well, we all turned out with very respectful, jobs and families.
I remember one Thanksgiving the Salvation Army came to the house and gave us a turkey and all the fixings. Kenny and I were so excited until Mom got home, called the Army up, said come get this turkey and give it to someone who needs it, I don’t take Handouts!! She was the one giving handouts, another time we were in a Shoe Store on State St. and a little boy wanted a pair of tennis shoe’s his mom could not afford, Mom paid the bill. This went on her whole life, always helping and caring for the other person.
I asked Mom if she was ever baptized and she thought no, so I was on a mission to make that happen. I received a call from my sister Carol in Pilot Hill, CA and said Mom was coming down the I-5 Hwy in her wheel chair to get baptized. I asked Pastor Steve Herder, Ascension Lutheran, Thousand Oak, CA if he had ever baptized a 92 year old woman, there is always a first. We made it happen and I was so happy, I always knew that Mom would end up in Heaven with all her good deeds.
Love You Forever Mom

Words can not express how amazing this woman was. I am honored to be able to call her, grandma. And, when it came to being a grandma she did not disappoint! Whether it was taking all the grandkids on amazing road trips of the western US, sneaking away for an early breakfasts with you before she would traveled back home, or enjoying a game of cribbage after fixing the best grill cheese and chocolate shake. She had a way of always making you feel extra special. She was always up for an adventure and taught me to be that way too, because you never knew what fun was ahead until you were in the car/RV and heading down the road.
I remember our rig being chased by a Buffalo in Yellowstone, camping through a wind storm in Utah and years later an amazing drive to the Midwest. Not to forget our around the country trip, taking her to Cooperstown NY to see the baseball hall of fame was the best. She always had a smile and some crazy comment to make us all crack up laughing. “Comes a revolution”
I will love her forever and carry her spirit and since of adventure with me everyday.

Hello. My name is Joyce DeNecochea, and my sister Lynette is married to Bessie’s son, Ken. This is what I recall, when thinking about Bessie: Fun, upbeat, charming and gracious to all those around her, will give you the fur coat on her back if you compliment it, but mostly you could feel the genuine love and caring emanating from her. I am so glad for the times I was included at events with Bessie in attendance. God bless her soul, and her family that she leaves ❤️
