I've known John for more than 35 years, even before he became my brother in law. He was fortunate to have lived an extraordinary life, filled with lots of successes, adventures, once in a lifetime events, love and happiness. His was a life very well lived!!
Of his many, many roles in life, that of son, brother, grandson, husband, CEO, pilot, athlete, poet, professor, uncle, mentor, friend...the list is endless, my favorite was as a DAD! John had three beautiful, intelligent, kind and loving daughters. His parenting of them was intentional, dedicated, purposeful...he poured himself into this "most important of all" roles in life. HIs wisdom will live on in his daughters' lives for many, many years.
I will always admire him for being a one of a kind DAD to my nieces!
love,
Chib

One of the finest persons I have known, John was the stuff of greatness - in spades. A gentleman of great strength, honor, intelligence, and kind to all. Devoted to his family and friends, he was great father, husband, and leader of all of his communities, bringing his enthusiastic zest of life and for all things positive and possible wherever he went. His legions of admirers will miss him greatly. John's big vibrant adventurous heart will live in all of us.

John was an amazing man. He had so many facets to his personality with the dichotomy between an intelligent, polished professional and a rugged adventurer and pilot. He was larger than life and a true lover of people. John really took the time out to sincerely get to know people, and he had an uncanny way of making one feel important and valued. In fact, John took the time out just a few months ago to write two very special personal notes to our daughters who both recently graduated. He started out by saying “I haven’t met you yet, but I feel that I really know you because of your Christmas letters each year……..” He continued to proceed with heartfelt words, full of motivation for their future that will continue to touch their lives forever.
We also had the opportunity to work with John back in the HCm days. John as Tom’s partner and Deb forever grateful to have John as her boss and mentor. As a boss, he was a true motivator and a fierce advocate always inspiring one to take on the challenge and growth. But John also knew how to take a break from work to have fun. He personally flew a group of us from client support and consulting in his plane to go ski-diving. A day we will always remember, full of paralyzing fear but the thrill of a lifetime.
Every year, we looked forward in anticipation to John’s Christmas card and letter. It was always full of new adventures and updated pictures of the girls. How fast the girls continued to change and grow each year into strong beautiful women. We think this may have been one of John’s favorite activities, sending out his family card bursting of love and a fatherly pride.
John, you will be truly missed, but we know you’re enjoying your new playing field in heaven. Lana and girls, over time may your beautiful memories together fill the pain of your tremendous loss.

I was a Teammate at the University of Utah with Mac. We, along with Dick Graham and Bryan Hustad (also teammates) shared a house on Fisher Lane during our last year at the "U". WE were in our early 20's. Mac was getting his MBA, Dick was applying to Medical School, Bryan and I, well, we were just trying to graduate...which we all did in the Spring of '79 and Dick went on to Medical School at the U of U. That Spring we all headed our separate ways, John heading west to LA to join Ernst & Whinney (today, Ernst & Young).
There are a lot of memories form that year, too many to share except.....
Mac headed west in his '67 VW Bug, made about 80 miles to Nephi, Utah... the VW died! He got a tow into town from a guy that also owned a small motel where he said John could stay for the night. He offered Mac $25 for the VW, the terms were accepted by John. The next morning the guy gave John $15. John said, " the deal was $25"!! With a smirk, the guy said, "$10 for the room".
I think that experience along with the movie "The Hucksters" staring Clark Gable went on to serve John well in his professional career.
Of course Mac made it to LA , and as they say, the rest is history.
We (Mac's teammates and I) were aware of some of Mac's achievements, but Mac was humble, we never really knew everything. The times we saw each other through the years were at Utah bowl games and golf outings. We would all usually pick up where we left off and talk about family, old games and our harmless exploits at Fisher Lane....where we are grateful the statute of limitations has long expired.
I will always remember John Wayne McIntyre playing "loudly" the William Tell Overture the morning of his last final exam.
His courage, humility, toughness, honesty, integrity, and friendship have made all of us whose lives he touched, better.
Like the many characters John Wayne played, Mac was a true romantic....believing good overcomes evil.
Mac really had "True Grit"
Thanks for being my friend!
Rest In Peace Mac....Hi Ho Silver Away
We all know who the masked man really was.

John and I grew up in the Hannibal, Missouri area. As cousins, I will always remember the times that we had together as children. Our families were close and we were close. We played games outside on many occasions and really looked forward to getting together again and again. We both pursued careers that took us in different directions. But, I will never forget the fun that we had as children. He will always be remembered.

Those of us who knew John as a boss also knew him as a mentor, friend, coach and inspiration. He has done more to shape and steer my career than any other adviser. John taught many of us the fundamentals of consulting and entrepreneurship, including navigating corporate politics and the importance of building lasting and meaningful relationships with clients.
John had an uncanny ability to hear a person’s voice for the first time over the phone, and then describe the person accurately before we met them in person several days later. He could predict which direction a client would lean. He built a consulting practice that set the standard for the niche market we chose. He taught us the meaning of consulting and how to provide value to the client. He taught us how to work hard, and play even harder. He taught me to fly a plane.
There is so much and so many that have been influenced by John. He was a true example of polish, compassion, energy and wit. He will be so fondly remembered.
Best wishes and strength to the family - our hearts are with you.

This is Mike Weeks, a teammate of John's at Utah. It was obvious to me from the time I first met him, that he was a rare "adult in the room". I can remember when I would get down on myself for not being serious enough with my academic responsibilities, I would site Mac (as well as his great friend Dick Graham) as an example of a guy that could excel both on the football field, and academically. I would say to myself "he gets it, you don't". I never knew a better man. God Bless John's family.

John and Lana were amongst our first friends when we moved to Santa Barbara more than twenty-five years ago. It was a slam dunk in that our kids became friends and so did we. I will always remember that after one of the preschool fundraisers there was a party book event and John sat with my parents, who were also guests. My dad couldn't stop talking about what a great man John was. For many years after my father passed, John brought up stories from that one night and gave me wonderful memories of my father. John of course asked my dad so many questions and listened with such intent and was able to retell the tales to me afterwards. It meant so much to me.
When we all started playing pickle ball at the Coral Casino John was one of the few who would actually choose me to be his partner. I could barely hit the ball, so I was not in high demand as a partner. But John patiently played with me, of course covering my ineptness and so kindly encouraging me. He taught me so much in a such a subtle way. Never with critisism but with gentleness. The gentle giant. I thought how lucky his girls were to have them as their coach.
I will miss seeing Johns smiling face as he'd walk out of the gym always asking about me and my girls.
John McIntyre will be greatly missed. He was one of the greats!

There are no words to express the loss we feel of our beloved cousin. He was truly remarkable in so many ways and lived his life to the fullest. He was a steward of overachievement, strength, love, and devotion ...one that truly loved life, his family, and those around him. We are so blessed to have been family and have shared so many memories throughout the years with the most recent being last July with all our kids together at the lake.
You will be forever loved and forever missed. Thank you for filling our hearts, loving us, and being an inspiration to all that knew you. We are forever grateful for the impact you made in this life. You have reached the highest peak and are radiant in all of God's glory. May Lana and the girls find strength in the life you lived and know you are always with them.

It has become common these days to ask, “what’s your superpower?” With Mac, the answer was “everything”. He excelled at absolutely everything – business, athletics, and most importantly, family and friendship – while being a kind, caring and joyful man of integrity throughout. A rare person indeed.
Mac and I went through a lot together, especially as business partners at HCm for 13 years during which we each married the love of our life and started families. My fondest memories are from times together away from work, whether camping in Yosemite or simply chatting over lunch. A classic example was going cross-country skiing for the first time. Mac, an expert skier of course, gave my wife Carolyn and I just one simple instruction: “Let’s go.” So we did, gamely trying to watch him and do what he did. It was a metaphor for many other situations – watch Mac, follow his lead, and things would work out.
I am so grateful to him for the big positive impact he had on my life and the lives of others. It is hard to accept losing his physical presence, yet there is comfort in knowing his spirit will always be with us. I will think of him often, especially when out on a hike (knowing he would complete the hike in half the time as me) and whenever I see someone with a radiant smile like his or who is living life to the fullest as he taught us all how to do.

When I think of Mac, I think laughter, playfulness, and pranks. Like when he convinced his HCm partners to all don magnetic ear studs to try to convince us wives that, after a rowdy night, they had all gotten their ears pierced. Or John continuing to tease me about asking a simple question (for an HR issue) about the marital status of one of his salesman. John lived life to the fullest, and did his best to make it full for others, too. Lana, Jana, Jillian, and Jacquelyn, through the tears of grief may you also find moments of laughter and playfulness. It will be one of John's ways of reaching out to you. Sending you love, hugs, and strength.

From a friend:
People come into your life for a REASON, a SEASON, or a LIFETIME. When you figure out which it is, you know exactly what to do. When someone has come into your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed outwardly or inwardly. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or spiritually. They may seem like a Godsend, and they are. They are there for a reason and you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up or out and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled; their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and it is now time to move on.
When people come into your life for a SEASON, it is because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn. They may bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it! It is real! But, only for a SEASON!
LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons; those things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person/people (anyway); and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.
Thank you for being a part of my life…

When we heard in the beginning of the year about John losing his battle with cancer our hearts were broken as we shed tears hugging each other in comfort. My immediate thought was, “he was one of the good ones.”
John and I met in the gym frequently. I’m not sure if you knew this, but he was my biggest cheer leader upon learning that I was going to expedition Kilimanjaro, and three years later Aconcagua. Few people I know were even interested in such challenges and John remained enthusiastic throughout my training ( mostly by myself). John remained a loyal and interested friend even when my expedition team was called down the second mountain, Aconcagua ( one camp from the summit) because of a huge and life threatening storm. Even though I was on the mountain for 19 days I felt a sense of disappointment only John could see though. His sense of compassion and words of wisdom help me remember the journey was more important than the failure to summit. Emphatically he told me there is no failure once I set my first foot on the mountain and challenged the great outdoors and Mother Nature.
John continued to be a comfort and a great source of inspiration for many as we grew our Pickleball community at the Coral
Casino. It was so difficult in the beginning to get people interested in a new sport and find time in their already business schedules to play what has now become a favorite pass time. John rallied the troops and help me wade through the difficult process of getting different level players to enjoy playing together regardless of skill. Imagine, when the club closed for Covid we had grown to a community of over 75 players. John was always willing to play with whoever’s paddle showed up during “open play,” always encouraging those who felt timid and a little self conscious if their skill level was not equal to his and their opponents.
John was a great friend to all, but most of all his love for you and your daughters was inspiring for many of us.
