Obituary of Joyce Puita

Joyce E. Olsen left her family and friends to join her Lord and Savior in heaven on January 13th 2023. Her children Tammy, Mark, Si-Si, Denise and Shari, will be celebrating her life. Joyce will be laid to rest on her 84th birthday in Carpinteria cemetery on January 28, 2023 at 10 AM. Joyce was the daughter of Viola Aultman and Joy Ernest Olson. She has two surviving sisters Joy Ann Shain and Sandra Adams, and a brother, Wyley Aultman. Joyce grew up in Tacoma Washington where she graduated from Lincoln High class of 1957. She married Frank Pagano in 1958. They moved to Santa Barbara the same year and started a family of three girls and a boy. they moved to Carpinteria in 1963 to Serpolla Drive. Raising her children in Carpinteria brought her so much joy and many memories to be cherished forever.

Her family grew with the addition of Shari and Dougal Freeman She loved them like her own. After the divorce, Joyce worked hard for her children and as a single mother went to work for Sambo’s corporation for nine years as a payroll tax specialist. When they closed she went to work for Carrows Corporation as an account manager for nine years and when they also closed she worked for nine years for Casa Blanca as their bookkeeper.

Joyce was a Girl Scout leader for eight years and a second mom to the girls in her troop. She was the PTA President while her children attended Aliso Elementary school. Later she was a 32yr member of the American Women’s Business Association, she served on the board as a treasurer as well as the president. She also served eight years on the board of the Santa Barbara Jazz Society. Joyce's six children gave her 20 grand children and in returned the grandchildren gave her 21 great grandchildren and a new name, “Grandma Pickles!”. Her family was her biggest joy in her life and all she ever wanted was to be their mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

That is who she was and she will be remembered as a loving mom and grandma who is always there for us.
