Mildred Erman

Obituary of Mildred A. Erman

Wife, mother, homemaker, peacefully passed on to another world on Friday, February 22, 2013. Born on January 4, 1928 to German immigrants, the youngest girl in a family of fifteen, she spent her youth assisting her family with the daily operation of their dairy farm in Webster, MN. Upon graduation from high school, she found employ- ment in Cleveland with the nascent United Airlines where she worked until meeting her true love and life partner, Lee R. Erman, at a square dance. They raised four children:daughter Lynne, two sons, Lyle and Laird and nephew David. At the closing of GM's Cleveland Diesel operations, the family transferred to Santa Barbara, along with many of their life long friends. Mildred kept busy with children, church, and crafts. By all accounts Mildred (known to all as Midge) would be considered a folk artist with mediums ranging from decoupage and crochet to ceramics and resins. Her enthusiasm for her art reverberated through her children and friends, and was showered upon anyone lucky enough to be on her Christmas list. Her devotion to her family was only equaled by her devotion to her Lord. With the move to Santa Barbara she sought-out and immediately found a new extended family in the congregation at Trinity Lutheran Church. There she met not only believers in Christ, but Christians like-minded in other ways as well. Her search would have ended there if not for an introduction to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she was even more taken by the generosity, strength, and love that flowed, and continues to flow from the true believers and friends she made in that church community. Midge was also an integral part of "Lee's Engine Works" the group of Delco retirees organized by her husband that made over 10,000 toys over a 10+ year period for the Council Christmas Cheer. Without her support, that endeavor would not have been possible. She was also an avid bridge player, scrabble aficionado, and member of the Red Hat Club. Preceding her in death were her husband of 52 years, Lee R. Erman and nephew David. Midge is survived by her daughter Lynne Holmes (husband Ken), sons Lyle (wife Debbie) and Laird (wife Joy), and grandsons Nathaniel, Aaron, Jason, Tyler, Ian and Fynn. She is survived by her four older sisters Virginia, Elsie, Marjorie, and Lila. A memorial service was held at 2pm on February 25th, 2013 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
