Roy Campbell

Obituary of Roy H. Campbell

Roy was a 2nd generation Santa Barbara native who still loved a drive down State Street. He graduated from SBHS in 1943, continuing his education at UCSB where he met his devoted wife of 64 years Shirley Broad. He was a natural outdoorsman. He loved trout fishing; back packing, hiking and family trips to Kit Carson Lodge on Silver Lake. After the children left home, although he and Shirley traveled extensively, vacationing at Silver Lake became their special place. He loved playing tennis, watching westerns, tending his roses and orchids and playing pool with his buddy of many years Kay Marvin. As a long-time owner of Thrifty Auto Parts his work ethic and integrity were obvious both to his employees and customers. In retirement he particularly enjoyed making wooden toys for Unity House through an Adult Ed. sponsored class. Roy was predeceased by his parents Eleanor Howard Campbell, Roy Campbell and Sister Eleanor Nelson. Roy was a World War II air force veteran who flew 20 missions while based in England. He took his final flight from Serenity House Hospice on August 16th. Roy is survived by his wife Shirley, daughter Claire Campbell-Tokar, son Scott Campbell, son-in law Enrique Medina, granddaughter Andrea Tokar and dear family friend Cynthia Ellestad. At his request there will be no services. This loving, gentle man will be missed. Donations to honor Roy maybe made to Serenity House, 930 Miramonte Dr., Santa Barbara, CA 93109 or Foundation For SBCC/Continuing ED, 721 Cliff Dr., Santa Barbara, CA 93109.
