Dorris K Thuner, 94, a longtime Carpinteria resident, passed away at her home on Tuesday morning. Dorris Bertha Kester was born to the late John Kester and the late Bertha Kunz Kester Moore in St. Louis, Missouri on May 16, 1918. She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School and was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Paul Andrew Thuner, on June 19, 1937. Dorris and Paul moved to California in 1944, living first in Montebello. They moved to Carpinteria in 1950. Paul served as the Santa Barbara County Assistant Chief Administrative Officer and Dorris volunteered at the Carpinteria Baby Clinic, was a superb homemaker and loved the Carpinteria beach and clamming at the Rincon with lifelong friend, the late, Isabel Castro.. She was an avid reader and amazed everyone with the number and variety of books she could read in a single week. She is survived by her son Jeffrey Kester Thuner (Kathleen), Fallbrook, California; her sister Susan Moore Hume (Larrie) Peoria, Arizona; her grandchildren: Julie Thuner Smith (Fresno), Elizabeth Thuner Street (Melbourne, Australia), Dr. Emily Thuner Coriale (Jeremy), Fallbrook, Kevin Jones, Karin Jones Havemose ( Alan), Kimberly Jones Baima (Breven), all of Arroyo Grande; and nine great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul, after 45 years of marriage (1982), and by her daughter, Patricia Thuner Jones (1994). McDermott Crockett is in charge of arrangements and, as per her instructions, there is no service planned. Interment will be at Carpinteria Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory are requested to be sent to Hospice or the charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank her many special friends and assistants who took such wonderful care of her the past several months, especially Tammy Graham and Rachel Matsuyama who stayed with her to the end.
