Chris Schiels Born: February 21, 1953 Died: November 24, 2011 Celebration of Life: 1:00 PM, Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Leadbetter Beach Picnic Area Chris was born in the Bronx, New York, on February 21, 1953, and passed away on November 24, 2011, in Santa Barbara. His parents, Thomas W. and Ruth Schiels passed away in 1968 and 2006, respectively. Chris is survived by his brother, Tom Schiels and his wife Kim Killion, and his cousin, Bruce Kelley and his wife Josephine. Chris also left behind many loyal and devoted friends. During a visit to Santa Barbara in the mid 70s, Chris was so struck with the beauty of the area that he made it his home for the rest of his life. He had a life-long passion for automobiles which he expressed by doing auto body repair in Santa Barbara, as well as being a crew member on a dirt-track auto racing team. Chris was well respected by his colleagues and employers for his meticulous craftsmanship. He put his heart into each job. For him, good enough was never good enough. Everything had to be perfect. Chris also had a passion for crossword puzzles, humor, conversation and friends. Each day began with Chris completing one or more puzzles. He could talk to anyone and was known for his jokes. The most important part of Chris’ life, though, was his friends, whom he cherished and who loved him. Chris was a good natured and gentle soul. He will be missed. There will be a celebration of Chris’ life on Saturday, December 10th at 1:00 PM at Leadbetter Beach and Picnic area in Santa Barbara. All friends of Chris are welcome.
