Vesta Keppeler

Obituary of Vesta Keppeler

Was born Vesta Frances Moore on March 27, 1924 and passed away peacefully on September 1, 2011 in Goleta, California. She attended Santa Barbara Junior High and Santa Barbara High School, Fullerton College and Los Angeles City College. In 1944 she married Robert James Keppeler, with whom she raised eight children. With her family, she returned from the Los Angeles area to Santa Barbara in 1968. She worked as a secretary at Applied Magnetics Corporation from the mid-seventies until the early eighties. Vesta was a poet and a lover of poetry, and was proud of having her work published as a young woman. A voracious reader and news fan, she was known and loved for her kindness and quick wit, her wisdom, and her open door, open mind, and open heart. Her family extends beyond relatives, to a circle of us who were lucky to know her quiet loving warmth. Mrs. Keppeler is preceded in death by her husband Robert and sons Michael and Timothy, and daughter-in-law Christina. She is survived by sons Kenneth, Stephen, Walter, Sean and Gregory, daughter Debra Lee, ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 on Saturday, February 4 at the Live Oak Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Goleta. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charity of your choice in Vesta's memory.
