I met Elinor once while visiting her grand daughter Jennifer.
Elinor was radiant, gracious and welcomed me into her home with a genuine warmth.
Jennifer adored Elinor, and I was lucky enough to witness the sweet love they shared for each other.
With a smile and fond memory, I wish you bon voyage, Elinor.

Elinor was a very special person to many in our community through her work as director/instructor of the Oaks Parent Child Workshop. My husband and I were part of the workshop in the late 1970's/early 1980's. She always had a calm, reassuring manner with parents and children and was always available with a knowledgeable, helpful and wise piece of advice about parenting. I took over the position at the Oaks from Elinor after she retired. Our relationship continued for another 30 plus years as she was a wonderful mentor to me, always available with a bit of Oaks' history or interpretation of policy. We both loved the Oaks so much! In addition to our conversations about the Oaks, she would always ask about my children and how they were doing. We both felt a special bond to all the wonderful families who came through the Oaks. And, my own family was part of her wide group of families. Elinor was so loved and appreciated by hundreds and hundreds of parents and children alike and I don't think she forgot a single one of them.
Elinor continued her positive outlook towards living even as she approached the last year of her life. Sometime this last year, I asked her how she was doing. She said to me that she never knew that she would be so happy when she grew old: she said she had a cat for companionship, a dear person who came in most days to help her, limitless books on tape to listen to and a wonderful family. What more could she ask for, she said! I feel very blessed by our nearly forty years of friendship.
