Janis Mae Hicks age 80, was born Jan 5, 1941 in West Covina Ca to George and Martha Ross. She earned her angel wings on Feb. 23, 2021 at Carrington of Shafter with Brittany and Amanda by her side. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Kim (Michael) Bean, Terry (Deanna) Summers, Chris (Darrell) Summers, Robin Pearson, 12 grandchildren 24 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren (with another on the way), brother in law Hugh Vasquez as well as many nieces and nephews who were all very dear to her. She is predeceased by her husband George Hicks, daughter Kim Worthy, son Lance Hicks, and grandson Joshua McBride. Also waiting for her in heaven is her beloved big sister and protector Patricia Vasquez.

Mom lived much of her life in Wasco, Ca. She was a waitress at the Pagoda Inn and Chalet Basque Restaurants. She was hired as a typesetter at The Wasco News and eventually became the office manager until retirement. She and George moved to Gardnerville NV for a short time until settling in Tehachapi to be near family and friends. They spent much of those retirement years traveling with their dogs in their RV. The high desert or the mountains being their usual destination, many times near a lake for George to fish and a casino for mom. She loved Las Vegas and her slot machines...and they loved her! She would almost always come home with a win!

She was a devoted mother, grandmother and animal lover. She loved her dogs and visitors with dogs were always welcome in her home. She would spend hours watching the deer in her yard in Tehachapi, it was the highlight of her day which gave her great joyl

Special thanks to Deborah Smoot, Kina Brown and Deborah Brady who lovingly provided home care for mom. Also, special thanks to Marianne and the staff at Hoffman Hospice for the excellent care provided. Finally, our absolute gratitude to the staff of Carrington of Shafter. Your love and care for her was appreciated so much more that words can convey.

To pay tribute to our mother, please consider a donation to any of these charitable organizations, The Alzheimer’s Association of Kern County, Hoffman Hospice or your local dog rescue association.
