Obituary of Honorata Biernat

Honorata Biernat was born on May 4, 1926 in Kielce, Poland. She, together with her pre-deceased husband, Joseph Biernat, started life together in Poland and gave birth to their first child, beloved daughter Helene. Through God’s good graces they were able to journey to the United States where the family continued to grow with sons Joseph and James. Honorata is survived by her daughter Helene, son Joseph, his wife Christine, grandson Christopher and his wife Nicci and their two children Holden and Ramona, granddaughter Melissa and her partner Isaac, and son James and his husband Thom.

Honorata loved her children and worked hard to make sure that they received a good start in life, and provided loving support as they grew into adults holding them in her heart through the very end. Honorata loved to garden and had a renowned green thumb. She is legendary for making even the weakest of plants thrive. Honorata had a wry sense of humor and bright wit that lifted the spirits of those around her.

In her latter years she and husband Joe joined their daughter Helene in Santa Barbara, California. Honorata developed connections and lasting friendships with her neighbors. She cherished these friendships and though English was not her native language she was versed and well-practiced in the universal language of love which she freely emanated.

Helene provided loving care to her mom through to the very end. Honorata’s final days were in the caring and loving hands of Serenity House. Helene remaining at the bedside 24/7, neighbors and family friends providing relief and added companionship and, together with the staff of Serenity House, they ensured that Honorata transitioned surrounded with loving spirit.

Funeral Services will be with McDermott-Crockett Funeral Home.

Viewing hours at the funeral home will be on Thursday April 21, 2022 from 9:00-10:00 am followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in San Roque Catholic Church. Internment and graveside service will take place after the mass at Calvary Cemetery.
