In reflecting on my brother in Christ, Dave Bowin, i believe he had another middle name. "Barnabas" which translated is "Son of Encouragement." With all the physical things Dave went through in life, he always wanted to know how you were doing when we had had the oppertunity to talk. His focus was always to encourage you in your life and a closer walk with the Lord. His smile never showed a lot of teeth but was always there in his eyes and in an out stretched hand. Dave and Ruth became grama Ruth and Uncle Dave to our children when we were living and working in Cayucos. Joyce said that Dave always talked about anything he was going though or had to do personally, with a chuckle as if it was nothing. She says that he was a kind, sweet man, who always had the joy of the Lord as his strength. We were very blessed to have him in and a part of our lives. Dave always encouraged me to be an encouragement to others, by both what he said and his example. He will be missed, but am very thankful for the assurance that we will be together again with our Lord soon

In my younger days my memory of uncle Dave was that he was always ready to play catch, shoot some hoops, or be the permanent softball pitcher for both teams on a Sunday afternoon. He pitched for so many years that the batters became nervous about accidentally hitting a line drive into him, but he said not to worry and he would quit when he was ready.
One time he and aunt Ruth took Mark and I to a Dodger/Giants baseball game in Candlestick park. Fun times! We stopped by to visit the Butterfield’s and Sjotvedt’s in San Jose on the way home.
In my adult years I came to know and appreciate the consistent encouragement and stability he chose to offer me as well as so many others. He had a knack for remembering numbers and read the scripture daily which made him a veritable concordance. Looking back through notes and letters I have kept I find so many from him. He and aunt Ruth invested heavily in postage stamps and stationery as I know of many other people who received the same communication.
He had some deep regrets and one of my last letters indicated a struggle to find the right words to articulate same. But he did not let regrets define him or overshadow his joy in Christ!
Perhaps the greatest legacy he left behind was the ability to grow and accept godly change at 97 years old. This is truly the fruit of a humble heart!
Thank you uncle Dave!

Dear Ruth, and family;
What a gift from God it has been to myself and All of my family, to have had "Uncle Dave" in our lives. As "precious as his death is in the sight of the Lord", so was his life to me. He was one who reflected the Love of God so clearly, that it encouraged me to want to trust God more. Our early morning coffee visits were special, and his encouragement to "keep looking up", and to "serve Saints" are admonitions I hope to follow all the days of my life here below. God has blessed us with so many truths to comfort us at this time . . . I'm sure in part because, especially in this case, the temporary separation will leave it's mark on our hearts. God Bless you all, and comfort you, and may you continue to follow "Uncle Dave's" example as he followed Jesus Christ his Lord.
With Love and friendship,
Troy and Gail Steinc "The silver haired head is a crown of glory,
if it is found in the way of righteousness"
(Proverbs 16:31)

So sorry for your loss. I will never forget the encouragement he was to me. I was working in the San Luis Obispo hospital as a traveling ultrasound tech and I happened to see him there volunteering his time. We had a wonderful conversation. He will be missed! But isn’t it wonderful that he is now in heaven! Sending our love Carol, Calvin and Joanne Riley.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of your family. Dave was an exceptional man. He was always kind and caring, ready to lend a helping hand without being asked and loved his family deeply.
My father, Cy Grant had the deepest respect for Dave and thought very highly of him. When my dad was ill, Dave made a point to visit him often which always left dad feeling so much better.
Dave will be missed by many, but we know he is now resting in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father.
