Jacqui posted a condolence

My Grandmother and I always loved taking walks in nature. One stands out most particularly. I was about ten and I can still hear her as she walked through the doorway saying, "Jacqui, do you want to go for a walk?" I jumped up to follow her and we went to Lake Casitas. It was a beautiful and ordinary day in mid-spring. I noticed a baby duck playing in the mud. But she saw more as usual and said, "Look he is floundering. Baby ducks have legs to swim but not to walk in mud. Why don't you go pick him up and save him?" I was nervous and excited all at once. Using the sleeves of my shirt I scooped the little darling up and carried him to my Grandmother. She smiled and cooed to him a little and suggested we walk on to find a family to add him to. A little ways down a mother duck was heading into the lake with several babies. We crept up and let our little one mix into the lot. At first the mother dunked the baby and I was worried she wouldn't accept him. But then he popped up and blended in with no more problems. My grandmother told me she was just getting the human sent off of him. And that was the day I fell in love with wild life.
