Obituary of Gordon Moore

Gordon died peacefully on December 31, 2014, in the company of his loving family. He was a wonderfully kind and good and gentle man. Born on July 4, 1936 to Herbert and Ruth Moore, he grew up in La Mesa, CA with his parents and sister Beverly. He was a graduate of Helix High School and of San Diego State University. He and Linda Caldwell were married in 1959 and in 1964 they moved to Santa Barbara with their children, Roland and Karen. His career was in insurance claims. He was the manager of Crawford and Company's Santa Barbara office for many years and after retiring from Crawford, he began his own firm, Gordon Moore Claims. He was known to treat all he met in a fair and honest manner, even under the most trying circumstances. Gordon had a deep love for the ocean and built his own wooden surfboard during his college days. He also built a small mahogany Sea Shell sailboat, along with many other beautiful objects for his home. He played tennis all of his life and was a member of the Cathedral Oaks Tennis Club, where he played in the Phoenix League. He loved to travel and he and Linda were able to take many wonderful trips together before his illness. He was a devoted husband to Linda, a loving, proud, and supportive father of Dr. Roland S. Moore of Oakland and Karen (Stephen) Woon of Berkeley, and a doting grandfather to Alex and Ryan Woon of Berkeley. He is also survived by his sister Beverly Mead, six nieces and nephews, and dear family members Kirby and Cathy Caldwell, Spike Wolfensberger and Marlowe Baldwin. As Gordon had wished, no formal services were held. The family would like to extend its deepest thanks to the caring and gentle staff of Villa Alamar, where he resided for over three and a half years. We are also very grateful to Dr. Larry Mietus and to Assisted Hospice Care of Santa Barbara for the tender care they gave Gordon in his last days. To honor Gordon, donations may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association of Santa Barbara or to Assisted Hospice Care of Santa Barbara. Born on the 4 th of July, he left us on New Year's Eve. He deserves all the fireworks.
