Obituary of Edith B. Buchanan

After 95 wonderful years Edie Buchanan passed away peacefully at home. She was one of nine children born to George and Mary Bean. Edie was a kind and loving mother of four children. She worked hard to support her family and was an excellent role model. She attended UCLA where she obtained her teaching credential. She taught kindergarten for many years and became a master teacher at UCLA's teacher training school. She continued her education and eventually earned her doctorate of education from UCLA in 1970. She later became a professor of early childhood education at California State College at Domingues Hills. Edie was an excellent, caring teacher and touched the lives of many children. In 1963 she met Van Dyk Buchanan, who became the love of her life. They traveled to Europe together which started a love that lasted for the next 50 years. In 1980 Edie and Van moved to Santa Barbara where they made many friends, gardened and enjoyed spending time with family. They traveled throughout the world experiencing many adventures together. These were some of her happiest days. She was greatly loved by all who knew her and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her devoted husband, four children, three step children, many grand children and great grand children. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014.
