Obituary of Harold Sherman Jones

Harold Sherman Jones, 87, of Goleta, California, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2014. Born on July 28, 1927 in Lehi, Utah to William and Harriet Jones. He was the youngest of five children. He grew up on a small family farm in Utah. He joined the Navy when he was sixteen, toward the end of WWII, and served on the aircraft carrier The Wasp. He met and married Margaret Campbell Jones on February 23, 1950. After he graduated from Brigham Young University, they moved to Southern California, where he started his career as an educator. He taught and was a school administrator spending his career at La Cumbre Jr. High School, in the Santa Barbara School District. Sherm was an extremely loving and proud husband, father and grandfather. He was devoted to his wife and lifetime sweetheart of sixty-five years. His four children Karin Long, Kristine Casier, Hal and Moe Jones all agree that he was kind and patient father. He enjoyed spending time with his thirteen grandchildren fishing, feeding the ducks, and attending their activities. They all share fond memories of the time they spent with Grandpa Sherm. A memorial service honoring his life will be held Saturday, August 9th at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 478 Cambridge Dr. Goleta, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, 2559 Puesta Del Sol, Santa Barbara, CA, 93105, where he spent time exploring and teaching his children and grandchildren.
