Obituary of Joann E. Conklin

Joann Eleanor Conklin, aged 85, died peacefully while doing what she loved most, quilting, on May 24, 2014 at home in Santa Barbara, CA. Joann was born on October 25, 1928 in Pasadena, CA, the daughter of Archibald B. Snyder and Frances Eleanor Decker. Joann always enjoyed sewing and needle-crafts, becoming an avid quilter in her later years and earning the nickname "The Vest Lady" in local sewing circles for the beautiful hand made quilted vests that became her trademark. In 1963, Joann married the love of her life, George Conklin and left her job at JPL so she could stay home and raise their two children. She became involved in the PTA and later started working at Beverly Fabrics. Joann is survived by her daughter Noreen Flores of Lompoc, CA and son, Brian Conklin and his wife Donna, of Dunedin, FL, ; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, June 1 at McDermott Crockett Mortuary, 2020 Chapala in Santa Barbara.
