Obituary of Robert A. Fisher

Passed away after a short illness on Friday, April 4, 2014 one day after his 95th birthday. He is survived by his two sons, Glenn and Randy, and Glenn's family. Robert was born in New York City. He attended Columbia College, majoring in chemistry. He joined the Robert Shaw chorale, where he met and married the accompanist, Glory, the love of his life, who predeceased him after 68 years of marriage. He obtained patents for growing and assaying yeast from his work first in New York, then in Bakersfield. He pioneered the fermentation of B. Thurengiensis, a natural insecticide. Bob was an active sailor, hiker, musician, and gardener. He retired early to focus on his vitamin business, which he started before vitamins were common. In 1974, Bob and Glory moved to Santa Barbara, where he was active in Meals on Wheels. He planted more than 50 trees in their backyard including cherimoyas and kiwis and was active in the Rare Fruit Growers. In 2006, they moved to Vista del Monte, where he began taking extreme close-up photographs of flowers and plants, displaying these "belly flower" photos in the Lounge. A memorial will be held at Vista Del Monte at 4PM on Thursday, May 8th.
