Obituary of Sarah Frances Hartigan

The rosary will be said Wednesday April 2, 2014 at 7:00 PM at McDermott-Crockett Mortuary Chapel, 2020 Chapala Street, for Sarah (Sally) Frances Hartigan, who died March 26, 2014 at The Samarkand Retirement Community. A funeral mass will be held Thursday April 3, 2014 at 10:30 AM at San Roque Parish, followed by internment at Calvary Cemetery. One of ten children of Daniel and Johanna (Winters) Hartigan, Sally was born on January 28, 1923, in Athlacca North, Co. Limerick, Ireland. She came to New York City in 1952, where she worked in banking. On July 4, 1963, Sally arrived in Santa Barbara while on vacation and discovered her true home. Accompanied by her brother, the late Rev. Luke Hartigan, she moved to California and never looked back. Gregarious and fun-loving, Sally enjoyed boating, painting, travelling, her German shepherds, and visiting with her far-flung and populous extended family. Sally is survived by her sister, Philomena Slade, of Devon, England, her brother-in-law Colin Slade, her sisters-in-law Eileen Hartigan and Kathleen Hartigan, her good friends Raedine and Robert Werthman and Joy Johnson, twenty-one nieces and nephews located in Ireland, England, Wales, the Channel Islands, Australia, and the United States, including Sally McNally of Ventura, and many grand-nieces/nephews.
