Obituary of Michael C. Borrell

Passed away unexpectedly in Santa Barbara on Friday, January 17, 2014. Michael was born in Barcelona, Spain, on May 18, 1931. He studied theology in Burgos, Spain. He came to California in 1958 to continue his education at St. John's Seminary in Camarillo and was ordained in 1961. In 1969, Michael decided to leave the priesthood. Michael met his wife in Santa Barbara and they were married in 1971. Together they raised four children. He is survived by his wife Judy and three children, Karen Wynott (Dennis), Don Elliott (Kim) and Steven Elliott. He was Avi to his grandchildren Patrick, James and Cathy Wynott, Zachary (Nichole) and Kyle Elliott, Janea, Brielynn and Logan Elliott, and to his great grandchildren Kyah Caamal and Chase Elliott. Michael was predeceased by his daughter, Kristi Popp and his granddaughters, Megan and Kelly Popp. Michael is also survived by his brother Jaume in Barcelona and numerous relatives and friends in Catalonia. Michael worked at Maderas de Santa Barbara and the Community Action Commission of Santa Barbara prior to his retirement in 1996. Michael was always an avid reader and until his later years he enjoyed many hours of gardening. He was a lifelong fan and supporter of FCB, Barcelona's soccer team. There will not be any services, as per his wishes. A gathering of family in his honor will be held at a later date. If you choose to do so, a donation to the Alzheimer's Association , California Central Coast Chapter, in his honor would be appreciated.
