Obituary of Cruz Sarinana

Cruz Sariñana passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 12, 2013. Husband of Avelina Sariñana (Billie) and proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Cruz was born on September 13, 1928 in Van Nuys , CA. At the age of 2 yrs old the family moved to Santa Barbara were he grew up. He attended Santa Barbara schools and graduated from Santa Barbara High School in 1946. Cruz served in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea. In 1950 Cruz married the love of his life Avelina (Billie) Moreno. They were married for 63 years! He worked for the Goleta Union School District for 30 years as a welder/locksmith. Cruz and Billie raised their four boys in Old Town Goleta, David, Steven (Mary), Daniel, and Paul (Amy). Cruz is preceded in death by his eldest son David. He has 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Cruz was actively involved in sports. He played league bowling for 15 years at Orchid Bowl Bowling Alley and umpired for the City of S.B. Softball and church leagues. Cruz loved sports of any kind, but his all time favorite football team is the San Francisco 49ers! Grandpa Cruz was the most loving, kind, funny, and big hearted human being. Everyone loved him and he loved them. He could walk into a room of strangers and by the time he left, those strangers would be his family. He had so much love for people and he could steal your heart with his touch and smile. Grandpa Cruz was always there for you. If you told him you wanted to learn how to bowl, he'd show up at your door with your very own bowling ball and bag, and say "let's go?! That's just who he was... Cruz is survived by his siblings Alfredo Sariñana, Theresa Vega (Al), and Connie Ruiz. Special Thanks to Mission Terrace, Visiting Nurses and Hospice Care of Santa Barbara. His Family will Love and Miss Him Forever. There were no services.
