Obituary of Marilyn Quam

Passed on December 10, 2013. She was at the Serenity House in Santa Barbara with one of her children, and her passing was quick and peaceful. Marilyn was born on February 4, 1928, as Marilyn Ann Busse. She grew up on a dairy farm in Newton, Wisconsin as the middle child with older and younger brothers and sisters. Marilyn went to college at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and earned a bachelor's degree in English. She met her husband Donald on a blind date and married in 1953. They started a life together in Milwaukee where they had three children: Bruce, Kathleen and Helen. The family moved to Santa Barbara in 1970. After the death of Donald in 1974, Marilyn moved to Colorado Springs and eventually came back to live in Santa Barbara in 1985 because she liked the area and the people so much. Marilyn had a great passion for travel. She was a travel agent for many years helping people arrange their trips and often leading trips of her own. Marilyn travelled to 77 countries in her lifetime and has many wonderful pictures and shared experiences of the places she visited. She loved getting together with her friends, attending events in Santa Barbara like the Symphony and walking in the afternoon at Shoreline Park. She was also an avid Packer fan. She is survived by her 3 children, 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grand children. She will be missed, but memories of her will live on. The family is planning a ceremony of life for Marilyn at the Parish Hall of the Unitarian Church in Santa Barbara at 5:30pm on Saturday, January 25, for those who would like to attend. The family would also like to thank the Senior Planning Services and the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care organizations for the wonderful support they gave to Marilyn. Contributions in her name to those organizations are welcomed.
