Obituary of Violet Peterson

Violet "Sue" Peterson, 98, of Goleta passed away peacefully October 14, 2013 surrounded by family after a brief illness. Sue was born April 8, 1915 in Santa Barbara. Graduated from Carpinteria High School where she met her husband, Emory "Pete" Peterson. After they wed in 1934 they lived on the Peterson ranch, home to the famous Carpinteria grapevine, until after World War II Sue was a member of The American Legion Post 49 and was their first female drummer. She danced with the Reina del Mar Parlor of Native Daughters of the Golden West, "Las Fiesteras" and was chosen Saint Barbara in 1960. She also belonged to Las Matronas and Beta Sigma Phi. Sue volunteered countless hours at the Goleta Depot and Tri Counties Blood bank. As a volunteer for Cottage Hospital she logged over 6500 hours. Sue loved Chinese history and art. She traveled to China twice and climbed the Great Wall in 1987. She took many other traveling adventures with close friends and family. When not volunteering or traveling she enjoyed reading and loved to spend time with her family. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael E. Peterson, in January 1979, and by her husband, Pete Peterson, in November 1979. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Fisher of Paso Robles, four grandchildren, Robert Mowry, Suzanne Moore, Brian Peterson and Trent Peterson. And six great grandchildren.
