Obituary of Ralph H. Good

Ralph H. Good Jr. passed away peacefully at home with his family on July 29, 2013. He was born April 19, 1923 in San Diego, CA, to Ralph H. Good Sr. and Betty Ellen McNutt. Ralph moved several times during his childhood and one of his fondest memories was joining Boys Scouts and camping in the Redwoods. He lived with his brother Harold and Agnes in Las Animas, CO, and graduated from Bent County High School in 1942. After graduation he joined the Marine Corps and served for the duration of World War II. During his time in the service he was stationed in Goleta, CA, to assist in opening a marine base. After discharge from the marines he chose to attend Santa Barbara Business College. While attending school he met and later married Mary Jane Dutra in September 1947. They had two children Joann and David. In 1951 he was recalled for the Korean War. After his recall they had their third child Tom. They later had two more boys Ralph and Robert. Ralph worked for Archie and Ellie Hall at home roofing coming until 1976 when he, Mary Jane and his son Tom started Buena Tool Co. In 1967 Ralph started Boy Scout Troop105 based at St. Raphael's church in Goleta. He remained active until his death and helped nurture hundreds of boys. Ralph retired from Buena Tool at the age of 69 and spent many years golfing, helping out at St. Raphael's church,Boy Scout tree lot and traveling and see friends and relatives with Mary Jane. Ralph is survived by his wife of 66 years Mary Jane, daughter JoAnn Bohannan, daughter in law Erlene, sons Tom (Terri), Ralph III (Theresa) and Robert (Deanna) Good. He was predeceased by son David Good in 1997. Grandchildren Edward (Lisa) Murray, Danny (Pam) Murray, Crystal (Chris) Kendrick, Shannon Good, Tim, Joey, Jayme Good, Chris Breton, Chris, Ben Good, Sabrina (Tim) Smith, Nicole (Mike) York, Dustin (Kathrine) Good, Lacey Good, Becky Novak. Great-grandchildren Brea, Mandy, Shane, Amber, Megan, Joe, Sidney, Austin, MaKayla, Kaden, Chepane, Melody, Kody, Jeremiah, Gavin, and great great grandson Abel. Special thanks to Dr. Timothy Rodgers and staff, Dr. David Gillon and Dr. Joseph Ilvento. A Memorial mass will be held Saturday September 21st at 10:00 a.m. at St. Raphael's Church, 5444 Hollister Ave., Goleta CA, followed by a gathering in the church hall.
