Obituary of Janet Weinpahl

Age 94, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on April 13, eleven days following a stroke. Janet grew up in Los Angeles, attending L.A. High, UCLA, and USC for a graduate degree in social work. She moved to Santa Barbara in the late 1940s with her husband Paul who had been hired as a philosophy professor at UCSB. In 1950 they moved into their newly constructed home on the ridge above Mission Canyon. As a homemaker, Janet volunteered over the years for the Santa Barbara General Hospital, the Red Cross, and most notably Santa Barbara Meals on Wheels. In addition to serving for many years on the Board of Directors for Meals on Wheels, for 28 years she was the driver coordinator for the meals which are delivered 365 days of the year. Janet had been slowed by dementia in recent years, but was enjoying life with her family back up on the hill in the house rebuilt after the 2009 Jesusita Fire. Janet was pre-deceased by her husband in 1980. She is survived by son Mark (August Vanderbeek), daughter Jan, and three grandchildren.
