Obituary of Orville Kenneth Siegele

80, died peacefully on January 28, 2013 in Santa Barbara, California. Memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday February 2 at 10am in the Samarkand Chapel. Reverend Siegele, known by his friends as Ken, was born on the family farm in North Dakota in 1933. The son of Reinhardt and Jeanette Siegele, Ken is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Margaret Laura Siegele; Ken's brothers and sister: Dale, William, and Shirlene; Ken and Margaret's son and three daughters and their spouses: Paul and Linda Siegele; Sharon and Tony Amundson; Diane and Jeff Menasco; and Carol and Rick Clinger; and their nine grandchildren: Kendyll, Lauren, Carly, Kevin, Kristen, Jackie, Michael, Taryn and Sarah. Reverend Siegele was a Korean War veteran. He was called to life of service in the church including over twenty years as an Administrator at California Lutheran University, positions in the American Lutheran Church in Fargo, North Dakota and Minneapolis, Minnesota; as well as full time ministry in Marion and Milnor North Dakota. He comforted the sick, the lonely and bereaved; he officiated at countless weddings and baptisms, and was always ready to assist those in need. Ken's friends will remember him fondly for his love of gardening. In their years in Newbury Park, he was active in the local orchid society and was always happy to show off one of his award winning blooms or to start off a new gardener with a plant of their own. Ken was a much-loved husband and father, and will be remembered for his quick wit, his strong work ethic, his love of the Lord, and his devotion to his family. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rev. Orville Kenneth Siegele may be made to the Siegele Family Endowed Scholarship at California Lutheran University, 60 West Olsen Road #1625, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360
