Obituary of Jose Diaz

Went to be with the Lord on January 10, 2013 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on February 28, 1935 in Oxnard, CA to Lorenzo Diaz and Guadalupe Escalera. He then later moved to Santa Barbara where he was raised and attend local schools. Shortly after he enlisted and served for two years in the United States army during the Korean war where he was honorably discharged. In Santa Barbara he meet the love of his life Sally and were married on November 30, 1957. Together they raised three children and made their home on Rhoades avenue in Santa Barbara. During his working years he was employed with the city of Santa Barbara and worked in the streets department then latter was transferred to the Santa Barbara Municipal Airport until his retirement at the age of 55. Even though he was retired he insisted on keeping busy he became a handyman and specialized in plumbing. Some of his favorite hobbies and pass times were camping, traveling with family, barbecuing tri- tip, re-arranging his garage, making gadgets and yes most of all fishing at Goleta beach with his buddies. He was a man with a big heart and would never say no to anyone who needed his help. Once you knew him you found out that he had a big sense of humor and had a nick name for everyone except himself. He is survived by his loving wife Sally Diaz of 55 Years, his son Lorenzo Diaz, two daughters Ana Diaz and Donna Melero (Adrian). Along with his Grandchildren Joseph Moreno, Joanna Moreno, Adrian CAD Melero and Lorenzo Diaz Jr. Great grandchildren Angel, Michelle and Kimberly Moreno. He also leaves behind his Sister's Helen Gordon, Alice Coleman and Lupe Herrera. He is preceded in death by his parents Lorenzo and Guadalupe Diaz, brother Leo Diaz and sister's Isabel Diaz and Mary Gonzales. He will be truly missed and will always remain in our hearts. A Visitation will held Tuesday evening January 15, 2013 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. at McDermott-Crockett Mortuary chapel 2020 Chapala Street. A Graveside service will be Wednesday January 16, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the Calvary Cemetery followed by a reception at the Moose Lodge. All are welcomed. Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of Moreno Mortuary.
