Obituary of Phyliss H. Hollems

Phyllis Helen Hollems passed away peacefully in Santa Barbara on November 8, 2012. She was 87. Phyllis was born in Seattle, Washington on March 21, 1925 the only child of Helen Kimball Kossub and Irvin Kossub. The family then moved to Pasadena, California. Phyllis and her husband, Hugh Hollems, moved to Santa Barbara in the 1950s. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh, and both parents. She is succeeded by her nephew Lawrence Hollems, Jr. and his wife Diane, their children, Jason, Laurie and Eric and their children as well as sister-in-law Mary Hollems and her family. Phyllis also leaves niece Marilyn Thompson and her children Spencer and Shelly and children, nephew Steven Hollems and his children Tim, Tom and Cynthia and their families as well as other nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. Phyllis also leaves behind cousins Anita Frye and Patricia Barber and their families as well as cousins Karen Clinesmith, Jay and John Milo Kimball and their families as well as many close friends. Phyllis loved Asian art, especially Japanese flower arranging and table decoration. She was the Treasurer of the Las Floralias Flower Club for 15 years. She began her life-long love of Japanese art and floral decor in Pasadena and faithfully continued in Santa Barbara. Phyllis also loved singing as well as big band and show music. The family invites friends to join them in celebrating her life at the McDermott-Crocket Funeral Chapel at 2020 Chapala Street in Santa Barbara on Friday, November 16th. There will be viewing from12:00 to 1:00 p.m. immediately followed by the memorial service and a reception at the McDermott-Crocket Chapel. Phyllis will be laid to rest at the Santa Barbara Cemetery next to her husband, Hugh, following the reception. Arrangements entrusted to McDermott-Crockett Mortuary
