Some one asked me the other day what happened to Russell so I looked for him in the Web and was sad to learn of his death. I have a group photo from 1957. Many have passed away. I can't recall his instrument.

I was honored to be able to attend the service. Russ is my first cousin and we grew up together in San Francisco. Our whole family is still somewhat in shock. Our hearts and prayers go to Alexa, Jeff, little Dillion and baby girl on the way. Russ was incredible and I treasure both our childhood and our adult memories. It was wonderful to see so many people there on Friday in Santa Barbara. Alot of questions were answered for me and I had a chance to say good-bye to our Rusty....I hope that his soul is now at rest and I hope that he knew somehow how much he was loved.....

Alexa - I was going through my journal and found these entries about your father. I thought you might enjoy having them. 6/9/79 - Saturday DeEtt [my wife] and I had a big date tonight. We went up to the Lobero [Theater] to see the Alhecama players in "Mr. Roberts". It was funny and well done. Russ Brill was in it and we went back stage to see him. He appreciated the visit as he gets little reward for his efforts. 9/27/79 - Thursday [Farewell luncheon for Russ upon leaving Raytheon] Went to a going away luncheon for Russ Brill at Cold Springs Tavern. There were only 13 people there, but it was a good gathering. Russ and Ned Jackson, Number 1 character, put on a pie-in-the-face show which was original to going-away luncheons. Ned gave Russ a chocolate cream pie and pushed it in Russ's face (twice) where upon Russ turned around and pushed a shaving cream pie in Ned's face. It was all prearranged. Russ said he just wanted people to remember his going away party. Russ was a great guy and fun to be around. Although it's been years since I have seen him, I'll miss him a lot. With sympathy and love, George Thompson
